Swift helps Kelce, Eagles stay undefeated with victory over Bucs

A Swift helped a Kelce pick up a victory on Monday night – this time it was for a team wearing white and green and had nothing to do with the defending Super Bowl champions.

Maybe it was just good karma as the Philadelphia Eagles topped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 25-11, to remain undefeated.

D’Andre Swift went over 100 yards rushing for the second consecutive game. Swift shook off would-be tacklers and ran for 130 yards. Jalen Hurts helped the passing attack with 277 passing yards on 23-of-37 with a touchdown pass, though he threw two interceptions.

After a heated discussion with A.J. Brown last week, Hurts came out throwing to his top receiver. Brown had nine catches on 14 targets. He put up 131 yards. Olamide Zaccheaus had two catches for 58 yards. One of his catches was a touchdown.

Jason Kelce and the line were seeing red all night but kept the Buccaneers’ defense mostly at bay. Hurts was sacked one time. Tampa Bay had four tackles for a loss during the game as well.

Baker Mayfield had a late-game touchdown pass to Mike Evans but the defense was just a bit too much for Tampa Bay to handle. Mayfield was sacked twice and threw an interception. He was 15-of-25 with 146 passing yards.

Rachaad White had 38 yards on the ground but fumbled once. Evans led the team with five catches for 60 yards.

The Eagles moved to 3-0 on the season and look to be just as good – if not better – than 2022’s iteration. Philadelphia started last season winning its first eight games before losing to the Washington Commanders. The Eagles eventually went to the Super Bowl where they lost to the Chiefs.

The Buccaneers were a surprise just to start 2-0. They dropped to 2-1 but the NFC South is tighter through three weeks. The Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints are also 2-1.

Canadian wildfire smoke surrounds Yankee Stadium as New York issues health advisory over poor air quality

As the New York Yankees stepped onto the field at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx on Tuesday night for the first of their three-game series against the Chicago White Sox, they were surrounded by an eerie haze as a result of the ongoing wildfires in Canada.

Videos and images shared on social media showed the dystopian fog that engulfed the skies in New York as a result of the intense wildfires that continue to burn in Quebec and northern Ontario.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Tuesday afternoon that an “Air Quality Health Advisory” was in effect until Wednesday night, and urged residents to “limit outdoor activities.”

“If you’re a New Yorker with heart or breathing issues, be careful when you’re outdoors today,” he said in a message posted to Twitter.

“Smoke from wildfires in Canada is impacting our city’s air, so an Air Quality Health Advisory has been issued. Try to limit your outdoor activities today to the absolute necessities.”

The Yankees Triple-A affiliate and the New York Mets’ affiliate in Syracuse both postponed their games on Tuesday night “due to poor air quality and an abundance of caution for potential health concerns.”

However, for the Yankees and White Sox, play continued.

Chicago earned its fourth straight victory, a season-high this year, with a 3-2 win over the Yankees. Lucas Giolito pitched the first six innings, striking out seven, walking three, and throwing 100 pitches before being removed without allowing a hit.

Closer Liam Hendriks also earned his first save since returning from his battle with cancer.

“It almost helps me when the stadium gets that loud,” Hendriks said after the game. “I think I tend to get a little better after that. For whatever reason, that helped me a little bit, lock in a little bit more than I had initially.”

“Unhealthy” smoke blanketed most of the northeast on Tuesday night, according to Fox Weather. Residents in New York even reported smelling a burning scent similar to a campfire.

Knicks take 3-1 series lead with Game 4 win over Cavaliers

Jalen Brunson scored 29 points, RJ Barrett had 26 and the New York Knicks took a 3-1 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in their first-round series with a 102-93 victory on Sunday.

Josh Hart moved into the starting lineup and added 19 points and seven rebounds for the fifth-seeded Knicks, who can reach the second round for the first time since 2013 with a victory in Cleveland on Wednesday. New York would host Game 6, if necessary, on Friday at what has been a deafening Madison Square Garden during the last two games that were dominant defensively.

New York forced Cleveland All-Star Donovan Mitchell into one of the worst games of his postseason career, finishing with just 11 points on 5-for-18 shooting. Darius Garland had 23 points and 10 assists for the Cavs, bouncing back nicely after going 4 for 21 in the Knicks’ Game 3 romp. Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert each scored 14 points.

Barrett was only 6 for 25 in the two games in Cleveland but has been outstanding back at home, where fans chanted his name in the second half. He had five straight points to break the Knicks free from a 75-all tie, then added another basket before Hart scored to push it to 90-81 midway during a stretch when Cleveland could only manage two baskets in more than four minutes.

After limiting the Cavs to the lowest point total in an NBA game this season on Friday, the Knicks led most of the way in this one to reach the verge of the Eastern Conference semifinals for the first time since beating Boston in 2013.

NBA WON’T SUSPEND GRIZZLIES’ DILLON BROOKS AFTER BELOW-THE-BELT BLOW TO LEBRON JAMES: REPORT

They’ve only made it back to the playoffs once since then, falling in five games to Atlanta in 2021. But this team is more complete, thanks largely signing Brunson last summer and acquiring Hart from Portland during this season.

Starting together for the first time since they were college teammates at Villanova, that duo combined for 20 of the Knicks’ 30 points in the first quarter, which ended with them leading by seven.

New York pushed it into double digits in the second and Brunson’s 3-pointer midway through the period made it 46-31. The Knicks were ahead 54-45.

But Garland got the first two baskets of the third quarter, set up Cleveland’s next three scores, then had the Cavs’ next two field goals to tie it at 59. His three-point play gave Cleveland a 66-63 lead and he had 11 points and five assists in the period, before Brunson made a 3-pointer with 6.2 seconds left that sent the Knicks to the fourth with a 73-71 edge.

Biden torched over classified docs rebuttals: 'What's next, 'Corn Pop did it'?'

After another instance of classified materials being found at properties belonging to or linked to President Biden, critics questioned how much longer he or his defenders can imply inadvertence over the alleged mishandling of the documents.

Reacting on “Hannity” on Monday, Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett said that excuse or defense is further eroded with every new incident of discovery.

Jarrett also pointed to a federal statute that he suggested counters Biden supporters’ top defense that purported negligence or lack of full knowledge of the misplacement of the documents is a cogent defense of the president – one usually lodged to contrast with the aspects of former President Trump’s classified documents saga in Florida.

“I disagree that intent and knowing and willful is the only standard,” Jarrett said. “If you examine Section F of 18 U.S.C. 793, that also provides for gross negligence or carelessness.”

That particular passage in law reads that “whoever, being entrusted with or having lawful possession or control of any document… or information relating to the national defense, through gross negligence permits the same to be removed from its proper place of custody … shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both.”

Jarrett said that statute, combined with the increasing instances of classified material discoveries “renders inadvertence implausible, and instead seems to be the definition of recklessness; gross negligence, under the statute.”

“So I think legally there would be a fairly strong case.”

Expounding on the president’s rebuttal that the president takes classified document handling “seriously” among other comments, Jarrett riffed the next excuse might be that “Corn Pop did it.”

“I mean, it’s getting to the absurd,” he said, referring to a widely-circulated story Biden told several years ago when the pool at Brown-Burton Winchester Park in Wilmington was being rededicated in his honor.

Biden regaled the crowd with memories of his time as a lifeguard at the pool, just off Governor Printz Boulevard on the north side of town.

“Corn Pop was a bad dude, and he ran a bunch of bad boys,” Biden said in one recollection, adding one day he called out to Corn Pop to demand he get off of the diving board; jokingly comparing him to competitive swimmer Esther Williams.

Biden claimed Corn Pop promised to “meet [him] outside,” and when the then-future president left the pool, the situation deescalated after he apologized for comparing Corn Pop to Williams.

On “Hannity,” Jarrett added declassification is an “exclusive power” of the commander-in-chief, saying that both Biden and Hillary Clinton – who also was embroiled in a classified documents scandal – lack the same authority as Trump or other presidents in that regard.

The documents pertaining to Biden hail from his vice presidency, not his presidency.

“Hillary Clinton should have been prosecuted. The evidence was overwhelming,” he said, adding that if former CENTCOM Commander Gen. David Petraeus and Bill Clinton administration official Sandy Berger were prosecuted for mishandling classified information, the law should be applied evenly in all relevant cases.
