Houston police identified a 20-year-old man on Monday as the suspect who terrorized an elderly woman in a brazen robbery outside of her home last month.
Michael Coates is now wanted on charges of aggravated robbery of an elderly person.
The robbery happened on the afternoon of Feb. 11, when Coates allegedly approached the 72-year-old woman as she walked into her garage in west Houston.
Video of the incident released by police shows Coates, who was dressed in black with his face covered, allegedly pointing a handgun at the victim and demanding her car keys.
HOUSTON MAN ARRESTED FOR ‘BANK JUGGING,’ ROBBERY AS AUTHORITIES WARN OF NEW CRIME TREND
Her husband, who is 75 years old, rushed outside the front door as his wife started screaming, at which point Coates allegedly pointed the gun at him and repeated his demand for the car keys.
They suspect then entered the couple’s home and grabbed the keys for their BMW sedan before speeding off. The vehicle was located the next day near an apartment complex about six miles away from the couple’s home.
Detectives received a tip about Coates after posting the video of the robbery online, leading to the arrest warrant.
SUV SMASHES INTO HOUSTON COFFEE SHOP, HITS TWO MEN DURING LIVE PODCAST: VIDEO
It’s just one of a disturbing series of robberies that have taken place in the Lone Star State’s largest city in recent months.
Another Houston homeowner was followed home by two suspects in January who rushed him with a handgun in his garage and demanded his car keys. The man handed over a bag containing the keys to one of the suspects, who then rushed off, preventing his accomplice from being able to steal the car.
On Feb. 13, two teens followed a woman from a bank after she had withdrawn $4,300 in cash for a trip to see family in Vietnam.
Once she got out of her car, 17-year-old Joseph Harrell allegedly approached her and demanded the money, then bodyslammed her on to the concrete, leaving the victim paralyzed. Harrell and 19-year-old Zy’Nika Ayesha Woods were arrested on Friday in that incident.
Dartmouth head football coach Buddy Teevens was hospitalized with “serious injuries” after he was struck by a pickup truck while bicycling in Florida last week, his wife said Monday.
Teevens, who is in his second stint as head coach of Dartmouth’s football team, was injured during a “bicycle accident” in St. Augustine on Thursday, the university confirmed in a press release over the weekend.
But details of the crash reported on by Valley News revealed that Teevens and his wife, Kristen Teevens, were both on bicycles while on their way home from a restaurant when the longtime coach was struck by a pickup truck being driven by a 40-year-old female driver.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL COACH HOSPITALIZED AFTER BICYCLE CRASH
“He has sustained serious injuries and is currently hospitalized,” Kirsten Teevens told the outlet. “He is a healthy man and hopefully he will have a full recovery. We are very appreciative of all the support and the outpouring of love.”
A preliminary report from the Florida Highway Patrol, obtained by the outlet, described Teevens injuries as “critical” and noted that there were “no illuminated lights were observed on the bicycle.”

The report also noted that Teevens was not wearing a helmet and “was not in a crosswalk or designated crossing area.”
According to the university, Teevens is not accepting visitors as he recovers.
The 65-year-old coach is Dartmouth’s all-time winningest coach. He coached the team to back-to-back Ivy League titles during his first stint as head coach between 1987 and 1991. He returned in 2005, winning three more titles.
Teevens owns a 117-101-2 record and is 83-70-1 in Ivy League play over his career.

NOTE: I’m profoundly deaf and my native language is American Sign Language. I’m however fluent in written English so I’m able to communicate in any non-verbal channel. If verbal communication is necessary, it’s easy (and free) for me to bring in virtual interpreter to support with the call. Due to being deaf, it’s been incredibly challenging for me to find a job in where the employer is comfortable with me being deaf. The company I work for (ExitGuide) ran out of funds and wasn’t able to secure further investments, so as a result I was given notice that April 7th is my last day of work at the company. I’m seriously anxious and worried because I’m a single dad raising two kids aged 10 and 8 on his own. I’m okay until the end of May thanks to savings and will try to stretch it with help of unemployment benefits, then beyond that, I don’t know. I’m not posting that sob story to guilt trip others into hiring me (although I wouldn’t object to a solid job), I only mention it because I sincerely would welcome advice and tips from those who have been in my position before, so please feel free to email them my way.
