Pennsylvania crossing guard arrested, charged with supplying middle school students with narcotics: PD

A school crossing guard in a Pennsylvania community was arrested for allegedly supplying middle school students with narcotics.

According to officials, Kiara Lee, 26, was taken into custody on Tuesday night and is accused of distributing electronic cigarettes and substances containing marijuana to students at Penn Wood Middle School.

Police told Fox 29 Philadelphia that a student reported that Lee provided students with vapes several times, and frequently smoked marijuana with another student.

The student’s guardian also confirmed to Fox 29 that Lee had been giving her child vapes and marijuana edibles.

Text messages between Lee and the student also revealed their experiences after eating the edibles, according to authorities.

“School crossing guards epitomize the role of public servant. They are – quite literally – entrusted with the lives of our children and hold a position of sacred trust in communities across the Commonwealth and the country. For an individual to abuse that trust is deeply disturbing, and corrosive to the well-being of the entire community,” Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said.

A parent of a student at Penn Wood Middle School told Fox 29 that the news of Lee was very troubling.

“It’s already bad enough as a parent, keeping them away from influences, but to hear that an employee of the borough would even sell to kids. It’s insane,” Maya Bryant said.

“It’s a shame to have these people on these corners to do their job, to protect children and now you’re telling me the kids are receiving drugs from them? It’s utterly disgusting,” another parent, Malekka Dade, told Fox 29.

According to jail records, Lee has been charged with two counts of corruption of minors and two counts of possession of marijuana, among other charges.

She was unable to post her $20,000 bail, officials said.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 14.

An Ohio man was tased and arrested Friday after allegedly trying to get into the U.S. Capitol building in Washington with a hammer, police said.

The suspect, identified as Christopher Snow, 33, was being screened by U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) at around 3:40 p.m. at the Capitol Visitor Center, where his backpack went through an X-ray machine, authorities said.

A USCP officer noticed a hammer inside the bag, police said.

“When the officer attempted secondary screening to look inside the bag, the suspect attempted to grab the bag and became combative, a police statement said.

Several officers intervened to stop Snow and a struggle ensued, police said.

Officers then tased Snow and took him into custody.

The hammer was found in the bag, police said.

“These officers did what they were trained to do and stopped this man from getting into the U.S. Capitol,” said USCP Capt. Andrew Pecher. “Great work from the officer who spotted the hammer, to the officers who quickly took the suspect into custody.”

Investigators were still trying to determine why Snow, a Canton resident, brought a hammer to the Capitol. He is charged with assault on a police officer

Mickey Joseph, who served as an interim head football coach for Nebraska this season, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon for strangulation and third-degree domestic assault charges, police said.

After officers concluded their investigation, police said he was arrested on the charges.

Joseph had been Nebraska’s interim head coach for most of this season up until the university hired Matt Rhule as their head coach.

“I was made aware of the charges against Coach Joseph and given the nature of the allegations and based on University policy he has been placed on administrative leave,” Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts said on Wednesday. “We will have no additional comment at this time.”

No further details about the incident were released.

The 54-year-old was originally hired by the school as the wide receivers coach, associate head coach, and passing game coordinator, but was tagged as the interim head coach on Sept. 11 after they fired Scott Frost.

There was a clause in his restructured contract that allowed him to return to his role as associate head coach, but that has not been officially exercised yet. Rhule has not said whether he would keep Joseph on his staff.

Nebraska went 2-6 while Joseph was the head coach.

Florida men arrested in Bank of America robbery, police say

Florida police have nabbed two men in connection with a Bank of America robbery in Tampa on Saturday morning.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said a man entered a Bank of America in Tampa just before 10:20 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2022.

The sheriff’s office said the man jumped behind the teller’s counter and demanded money. He left with an undisclosed amount and fled in a waiting white Honda Accord.

Investigators tracked down the vehicle to the Park on Waters Apartments at 2701 W Waters Ave. Deputies connected the vehicle to 48-year-old John Ward, the sheriff’s office said. Inside the vehicle, deputies found “large amounts of cash” that matched the money stolen from the bank.

Deputies located another man who they said was running around wearing only his boxers and a white tank top. The rest of his clothes were later found at a nearby lake. The man — later identified as 28-year-old Terry Zukowski — admitted to driving the getaway vehicle in the bank robbery, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office said that he also admitted to driving the getaway car in the robbery of a Suncoast Credit Union earlier this month.

“Thanks to the hard work, great investigative skills, and quick response by deputies responding to the scene, the two suspects were located and charged,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement.

Ward and Zukowski are both charged with robbery while wearing a mask.
