LA Times editorial board demands Biden administration push for cease-fire in Israel-Hamas war

The Los Angeles Times editorial board is arguing for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war, following weeks of fighting after Hamas launched the October 7 terrorist attacks on Israel.

The editorial board claimed that it “has become impossible to distinguish between Israel’s decidedly non-surgical operation against Hamas militants in Gaza and the indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians.”

“It is time for a cease-fire,” the board wrote. “It is time for the Biden administration to assert strong and sustained pressure on the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to stop attacks that have reportedly already killed more than 11,000 Gazans. The world cannot stand by to witness more slaughter of civilians.”

REP. JAMAAL BOWMAN TAKES HEAT FOR SAYING SUPPORTING A CEASE-FIRE IS ‘WHAT IT ACTUALLY MEANS TO BE JEWISH’

“Remaining mindful of America’s mistakes, it is incumbent upon the Biden administration now to avoid complicity with Israel’s,” the board wrote. “We are past the time to excuse the horror in Gaza. Biden has to press Netanyahu hard to stop the mass, indiscriminate killing. That starts with a call for a cease-fire.”

The board conceded that while Hamas is a “radical militant organization” that also is in control of the Gaza government, “Hamas’ atrocities do not justify atrocities in kind.”

The board continued: “Following Hamas’ initial attack, Israel instructed the people of northern Gaza to leave their homes and made no commitment that they would ever be able to return. Israel’s reprisal destroyed homes and cut off power and communications, making it impossible for survivors of the bombing even to search for the remains of family and neighbors beneath the rubble.”

AOC LEADS TWO DOZEN DEMOCRATS CALLING FOR ISRAEL CEASE-FIRE OVER ‘VIOLATIONS AGAINST CHILDREN’ IN GAZA

Prominent members of Congress and big-name Democratic politicians are divided on the issue of a cease-fire.

Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., was criticized this week for saying that by calling for a cease-fire in Gaza, he was “uplifting deeply what it actually means to be Jewish.” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has also led renewed calls for Biden to support a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas over the “grave violations” being committed against children in the war.

On the other side, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton rejected calls for a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war on “The View” in early November, instead throwing her support behind “humanitarian pauses.”

Tlaib accuses Biden of supporting 'genocide' of Palestinians, warns: 'We will remember in 2024'

Social media users recoiled after “Squad” member and pro-Palestinian Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., released a video demanding President Biden support a cease-fire to stop “the genocide of the Palestinian people” or face electoral consequences in 2024.

Tlaib’s post on X, formerly known as Twitter, condemned Biden’s declaration that the U.S. stands with Israel and opposes a cease-fire, telling him, “the majority of the American people are not with you on this one. #CeasefireNow.”

The post also included a video of scenes from Gaza and protests in the U.S., interspersed with clips from Biden, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The scenes included protest chants from Ohio saying, “No peace on stolen land!” Illinois “Free! Free! Palestine!” and Michigan “From the river to the sea.”

The video ended with Tlaib saying to the camera, “We will remember in 2024,” before the words “Joe Biden supported the genocide of the Palestinian people,” appeared on the screen along with a demand for him to immediately support a cease-fire “or don’t count on us in 2024.”

DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS OF AMERICA FOUNDING MEMBER LEAVES OVER ITS ‘MORALLY BANKRUPT’ RESPONSE TO HAMAS ATTACK

A multitude of X users found Tlaib’s post “disturbing.” Many accused the U.S. lawmaker of antisemitism, others disputed her claim that most American’s don’t want to back Biden’s support for Israel, and some demanded she resign.

The Spectator contributing editor Stephen Miller shared a screenshot of the video’s “From the river to the sea!” shot and asked, “Hi congresswoman, hey kind of a newb to all of this. What does this mean exactly? Thanks for any clarity you can provide.”

Former counterterrorism expert Nathan Sales told Fox News that the Palestinian chant represents a call for the “extermination of the Jewish state.”

Digital strategist Greg Price commented on the inclusion of “From the river to the sea,” stating, “It appears that Rashida Tlaib is endorsing the genocide of Israel while accusing Biden of supporting genocide.”

Former comms person for Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Steve Guest wrote, “In case you were wondering just how antisemitic Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib is, look no further than this. Not only did she make a video supporting the vile ‘from the river to the sea’ chant, she accused Joe Biden of supporting genocide.”

“She’s actually calling for the annihilation of Israel and genocide for me and my family, as well as all other Jews here. So yes, we will remember in 2024,” Jewish columnist Nadav Eyal explained.

DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISTS OF AMERICA FOUNDING MEMBER LEAVES OVER ITS ‘MORALLY BANKRUPT’ RESPONSE TO HAMAS ATTACK

“She’s inching towards telling us how she really feels. She’s still holding back. She wishes she were in southern Israel on October 7, but can’t bring herself to say it out loud,” Cornell Law professor William A. Jacobson alleged.

Journalist Jim Treacher expressed hope that Tlaib would be out of Congress soon. He stated, “Liar. I can’t wait till you go back to the private sector to hate Jews.”

Townhall.com editor Rebecca Downs ripped Tlaib, posting, “This disturbing pro-Hamas ad appeared almost a week ago to another account, and I covered it not long after for @townhallcom. We must make something very clear here. The calls of ‘from the river to the sea’ in MI, where Tlaib’s district is, is a call for genocide.”

Israeli rapid response X account “Israel War Room” shared Tlaib’s post and said, “In an ad attacking @POTUS, @RashidaTlaib amplifies calls for genocide against Israeli Jews.”

The White House and Biden re-election campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

SEAN HANNITY: The world is imploding, US more divided than ever under Biden

FOX News host Sean Hannity breaks down the state of the world under President Joe Biden. Hannity shows how Biden broke his promises to unite the country, lower temperatures and keep the border secure.

SEAN HANNITY: Welcome to “Hannity” and also welcome to Biden’s disaster of America. Now, tonight, Israeli soldiers, they are on the ground in Gaza battling Hamas. Other units from the IDF they are clashing with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Americans and hundreds of others, they are still being held hostage underground in Gaza, a network of 300 miles of underground terror tunnels to kill Israelis and to take them hostage. That is the war that Hamas has been waging against Israel, now going on for decades. Now it’s time for Israel to win this war. At the same time, we have U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Syria. They continue to come under attack from Iranian proxies all around the region. We have two powerful U.S. carrier strike groups that are now in the Mediterranean Sea, not far from Israel. Keep in mind, this is your state of the world under your president, Joe Biden.

BIDEN REPORTEDLY RAGED OVER NEW YORK TIMES’ COVERAGE OF GAZA HOSPITAL EXPLOSION

And in our country, a level of antisemitism, outright left-wing bigotry and hatred. It is on the rise in a way I never thought I’d see in my lifetime. And I doubt many of you thought you’d see in yours. And by the way, have you noticed the border is an utter disaster? Under Joe Biden, over eight million illegal immigrants will cross into this country by the end of this year. Maybe as high as nine, maybe as high as 10 million. That is roughly the population of New York City. This is your State of the Union under Joe Biden, your president. This includes, by the way, at our border, 659 people from Iran. Why are Iranians coming to our border? 538 from Syria, along with thousands of others, special interest aliens from the Middle East. Why are they coming here? Who’s paying for them to come here? Why isn’t there any real vetting of the people crossing that border? Because I’ll tell you right now, the next 9/11 is almost certainly being plotted and planned from inside our country. Thank you, Joe Biden.

Now to the Democrats watching this program tonight. The ones that voted for Joe Biden. I ask you tonight, are you happy? Are we not better than this? Is this what you wanted? Is this what it looks like when, quote, the adults are back in charge? Because in 2021, it was Joe Biden who promised to lower the temperature, unite the country. He said our borders were closed and secure. They have lied to us again and again and again. But after three years of nothing but weakness, lying, dishonesty, confusion from a guy, frankly, that can barely speak or walk. The world is imploding and America is even more divided than ever. Weakness always invites this kind of chaos. But don’t worry. Because, according to his brilliant Vice President, Joe Biden, is alive and running for reelection. He’s actually alive. What a standard.

Sen. Vance accuses Biden of using Israel's fight against Hamas to push for more Ukraine aid: 'Disgusting'

Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, is accusing President Biden of using Israel’s fight against Hamas terrorists to push additional aid to Ukraine in its ongoing battle with Russia, describing the effort in the president’s address from the Oval Office Thursday night as “completely disgraceful.” Vance, who published an opinion piece on the topic in The Hill … Continue reading Sen. Witness says Joe Biden talked to Hunter’s business associates; GOP sees smoking gun, Dems downplay

Hunter Biden’s former associate Devon Archer said Hunter would sometimes put then-Vice President Joe Biden on speakerphone while meeting with business partners, two lawmakers said Monday.

Archer spoke to the House Oversight and Accountability Committee on Monday in a closed-door meeting. The panel is investigating Hunter Biden and what, if any, role his father played in his foreign business dealings.

But Republicans and Democrats were split on whether Archer’s comments were a sign that now-President Biden has been working closely with his son’s business deals, something the White House has denied.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., told Fox News Digital that Archer’s admission proves Biden “lied” about not being involved in his son’s foreign dealings.

BIDEN’S NARRATIVE ON NEVER DISCUSSING BUSINESS DEALS WITH HUNTER CONTINUES TO CRUMBLE

Greene, who was not in the meeting but said she is getting regular updates from her staff, said that Archer “said specifically, he heard Hunter Biden speak to Joe Biden more than 20 times” and said Archer recalled the conversations were “about their business deals.”

“Not about lunch or the weather or just getting dad on the phone. It’s about their business deals. He also said that the Bidens were in the business of influence peddling. And that is significant. Very significant,” Greene said.

“What that does is that proves Joe Biden lied…think about how significant that is. That means Kevin McCarthy calling for an impeachment inquiry is the right thing to do,” she said.

On the other side of the aisle, freshman Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., told reporters that Archer said Biden was on the phone when he was working with Hunter. But Goldman said they discussed “casual niceties” and “the weather” rather than topics of business.

HOUSE REPUBLICANS CHEER ‘BIG WIN FOR THE RULE OF LAW’ AFTER HUNTER BIDEN’S ‘SWEETHEART’ DEAL COLLAPSES

“Like many people, Hunter spoke with his father every day, and would often put his father, occasionally would put his father on to say hello to whomever he happened to be caught at dinner with, and Mr. Archer clarified that was sometimes people that they were having, you know, they were trying to do business with, and it was sometimes friends or other social engagements,” he said.

“As he described it, it was all casual niceties, the weather, what’s going on,” Goldman added. “There wasn’t a single conversation about any of the business dealings that Hunter had.”

Greene, however, accused Goldman of covering up for the president and his family. She pointed out that before coming to Congress, Goldman first gained national attention as House Democrats’ lead counsel during the first impeachment of former President Trump.

“Dan Goldman is a former prosecutor on the impeachment team of President Trump, and now has basically just declared himself the de facto attorney for Joe Biden and Hunter Biden. And so he’s standing out there trying to downplay this and spin this, but that’s not what was said,” Greene said.

HUNTER BIDEN’S PLEA DEAL WAS MEANT TO ‘PROTECT’ BIDEN’S CRIMINAL INVOLVEMENT: TED CRUZ

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., told reporters that he believes Archer’s testimony “implicated the president” but said of the phone calls with business associates, “The substance of the conversations were pleasantries.”

Archer said that Biden was put on the phone to sell “the brand,” a source told Fox News. These phone calls included a dinner in Paris with a French energy company and in China with Jonathan Li of BHR.

Archer testified there was value of adding Hunter Biden to Burisma’s board was “the brand,” the source said. The argument was that then-Vice President Joe Biden brought the most value. Archer also stated that Burisma would have gone under if not for “the brand.”

Law professors urge Biden to defy 'mistaken' rulings by 'MAGA' Supreme Court justices

President Biden should find ways to defy the rulings of “MAGA justices” for their “gravely mistaken” constitutional interpretations, law professors urged in a letter on Wednesday.

Harvard law professor Mark Tushnet and San Francisco State University political scientist Aaron Belkin penned “An Open Letter to the Biden Administration on Popular Constitutionalism” to respond to what Biden has called “not a normal court” following high-profile cases.

“We urge President Biden to restrain MAGA justices immediately by announcing that if and when they issue rulings that are based on gravely mistaken interpretations of the Constitution that undermine our most fundamental commitments, the Administration will be guided by its own constitutional interpretations,” they wrote.

The letter continued, “We have worked diligently over the past five years to advocate Supreme Court expansion as a necessary strategy for restoring democracy. Although we continue to support expansion, the threat that MAGA justices pose is so extreme that reforms that do not require Congressional approval are needed at this time, and advocates and experts should encourage President Biden to take immediate action to limit the damage.”

WHY MEDIA, LIBERALS ARE ATTACKING HIGH COURT’S LEGITIMACY AFTER LATEST RULINGS

Tushnet and Belkin cited a solution known as “popular constitutionalism” claiming “that courts do not exercise exclusive authority over constitutional meaning.” They theorized that Biden could explain how the Supreme Court’s decisions are “egregiously wrong” and offer an alternative constitutional interpretation, particular if the ruling poses a “grave threat.”

“In this particular historical moment, MAGA justices pose a grave threat to our most fundamental commitments because they rule consistently to undermine democracy and to curtail fundamental rights, and because many of their rulings are based on misleading and untrue claims,” they warned.

George Washington University law professor and legal expert Jonathan Turley penned an op-ed for The Hill on Saturday that warned about this interpretation of the constitution.

“What is most striking about these professors is how they continue to claim they are defenders of democracy, yet seek to use unilateral executive authority to defy the courts and, in cases like the tuition forgiveness and affirmative action, the majority of the public. They remain the privileged elite of academia, declaring their values as transcending both constitutional and democratic processes,” Turley wrote.

JONATHAN TURLEY SAYS BIDEN’S STUDENT DEBT FORGIVENESS STOOD LITTLE CHANCE BEFORE SCOTUS: ‘BORDERED ON OBSCENE’

He added, “In other words, they are calling for Biden to declare himself the final arbiter of what the Constitution means and to exercise unilateral executive power without congressional approval. He is to become a government unto himself.”

In 2018, Tushnet and Belkin took part in the “1.20.21 Project,” an effort to counter “Republican obstruction, theft and procedural abuse” in the Supreme Court following the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh. The project predominantly focused on expanding the size of all the nation’s federal courts and packing them with liberal judges.

Reporters previously pushed the Biden administration to ignore Supreme Court decisions based on its lack of legitimacy back in 2022.

“The court famously has no enforcement authority. Its authority is based in acceptance of the court’s legitimacy. But it can’t do whatever the hell it wants however it wants and expect deference. [E]xecutive ought to brush off the court’s junta-like attempts to rule by edict,” former Niskanen Center Vice President for Research Will Wilkinson tweeted.

GOP senators demand Biden comply with COVID origins transparency law as deadline approaches

EXCLUSIVE: Two Republican senators are demanding President Biden comply with the COVID origins bill he signed into law earlier this year, which requires the declassification of all information pertaining to the links between a Chinese lab and the origin of COVID-19.

The Biden administration has yet to act on the requirements laid out in the COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 despite the deadline for the declassification – June 18 – quickly approaching.

“We write today to urge the swift and complete implementation of the COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023, which Congress unanimously passed, and which you signed into law on March 20, 2023,” Sens. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., and Mike Braun, R-Ind., wrote in a letter sent to Biden on Wednesday and shared with Fox News Digital.

CHINESE EMBASSY URGES HOUSE REPUBLICAN TO STOP ‘TARGETING CHINA,’ FOCUS ON ‘OWN FAILURE’ IN COVID ORIGINS HUNT

“As you know, the COVID-19 Origin Act of 2023 requires the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) to ‘declassify any and all information’ relating to links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origin of COVID-19 within 90 days of the law’s enactment,” they wrote.

Hawley and Braun added that the administration had not yet given any indication as to when the relevant material would be declassified, and noted that the law also required “all of the information” to be transmitted to Congress.

CHINA WRITES FURIOUS LETTER TO HAWLEY ON COVID ORIGINS BILL: ‘POLITICAL MANIPULATION’

They wrote that the law doesn’t allow for any redaction to the information, but that it did provide for narrower scope of redaction in order “to protect intelligence sources and methods.”

“Your Administration should comply with the law as written and not undermine clear congressional intent to provide as much transparency to the American people as possible,” Hawley and Braun wrote.

“The American people deserve to know how this pandemic began, and their democratically elected representatives have expressed their will unanimously. I urge you not to stand in their way,” they added.

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Schumer praises Biden for making deal with McCarthy, tells Senate to prepare for weekend vote

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer praised President Joe Biden for coming to a debt ceiling agreement with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and told senators to prepare for a vote later this week.

Schumer made the statement in a “dear colleagues” letter to his fellow Democrats on Sunday. The caucus will meet over the phone to discuss the specifics of the budget deal later Sunday and early this week, he said in the letter.

“I salute President Biden for protecting the American economy and delivering for American families by taking the threat of default off the table,” Schumer wrote. “I look forward to seeing the language of the agreement and reviewing it carefully.”

“These have been a difficult few weeks given how intransigent and extreme the MAGA Republicans are, but nonetheless we must avoid default and its grave consequences for the American people,” he added.

DEBT CEILING AGREEMENT IN PRINCIPLE REACHED BETWEEN DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS

McCarthy also noted a warning from Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen that the U.S. would not be able to pay its debts beyond June 5 if Congress does not act.

McCarthy has vowed that lawmakers in the House will get 72 hours to review the text of the agreement before voting on it, pushing back the Senate process to later this week.

SPEAKER MCCARTHY DEFENDS BUDGET COMPROMISE AS CONSERVATIVES BALK: ‘A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION’

Biden’s White House team negotiated with Republican leadership throughout the weekend before announcing an “agreement in principle” on Sunday. The speaker defended that agreement in an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”

MCCARTHY CITES ‘PROGRESS’ IN US DEBT-CEILING TALKS WITH WHITE HOUSE

“Maybe it doesn’t do everything for everyone, but this is a step in the right direction that no one thought that we would be able to today,” McCarthy told host Shannon Bream.

“I’ll debate this bill with anybody,” he continued. “Is it everything I wanted? No, because we don’t control all of it. But it is the biggest rescission in history. It is the biggest cut Congress has ever voted for in that process.”

Several Republicans remain opposed to the legislation, most of them within the House Freedom Caucus. Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, blasted the bill for not cutting the vast majority of Biden’s push to expand the IRS, among other things.
