2 Nepal road crashes leave at least 29 dead, 22 injured

A bus returning from a party crashed near the Nepalese capital on Tuesday killing at least 17 people and injuring 22 more, police said.

Police officer Chakra Raj Joshi said they were not sure why the bus bumped the side wall of the mountainous road but were investigating the cause.

The injured were rescued by local villagers with the help of police officers and soldiers who reached the crash site near Bethanchowk village, located about 30 miles east of the capital, Kathmandu.

Earlier on Monday, a vehicle carrying passengers coming from a wedding veered off a mountain highway in Nepal leaving 12 people dead. There were no survivors.

RISING TIGER POPULATION IN NEPAL PUTS HUMANS AT RISK: REPORT

The small passenger truck was over capacity when it rolled off the mountain road near Chedagad village, about 250 miles northwest of the capital, Kathmandu.

Police said the accident happened late Monday evening and by the time rescuers arrived at the scene, eight had already died. Three more died on the way to the hospital and one died later at the hospital.

After driving off the road, the vehicle rolled about 200 meters down the mountain slope.

Road crashes in mountainous Nepal are often blamed on poorly maintained roads and vehicles.

Bail set to $1 million for WA man who allegedly carried guns into a courthouse

A man suspected of carrying guns into a courthouse in Washington state earlier in the week, prompting a standoff and a three-hour lockdown before his arrest, had bail set Tuesday at $1 million.

Snohomish County District Court Presiding Judge Jennifer Rancourt set bail during a first court appearance for 32-year-old David Hsu, The Daily Herald reported.

Hsu’s attorney, Lorcan Malone, had requested little to no bail, noting Hsu has no criminal history and wasn’t accused of any violent offenses. Hsu, of Woodinville, remained jailed Tuesday afternoon.

WA MAN ARRESTED AFTER WALKING INTO COURTHOUSE WITH SEVERAL RIFLES, BULLETPROOF VEST

Rancourt said she found probable cause to hold Hsu on investigation of resisting arrest, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct, and unlawful display of a weapon.

Wearing a protective vest, Hsu had entered the Snohomish County Courthouse lobby in Everett at about 12:30 p.m. Monday with guns and ammunition, the county sheriff’s office said. Hsu demanded to see two judges and the sheriff to change arrangements for custody of his child, detectives said in court documents.

Hsu was immediately confronted by law enforcement officers who ordered him to drop his weapons, authorities said, adding he placed two rifles on the ground, but refused to relinquish additional firearms and weapons and leave the building.

After hours of negotiations with law enforcement, Hsu was arrested. No one was hurt.

Sheriff’s office detectives said they recovered two rifles, four handguns, more than 300 rounds of ammunition, a ballistic armor vest, six knives, a hatchet and brass knuckles from the lobby of the courthouse.

Broncos' Russell Wilson suffers big knot on his head as tackle left him with concussion

Russell Wilson nearly led the Denver Broncos to an incredible comeback victory against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday but left the game early with a concussion.

On 3rd-and-11 from the Chiefs’ 16-yard line, Wilson scrambled for a first down and was about 2 yards short of the end zone when he was tackled by safety Juan Thornhill. Wilson went down hard and appeared to be in a daze. He needed to be helped up by medical personnel.

He wouldn’t return to the game and the broadcast camera showed the veteran quarterback with a big knot in his head as he roamed the sideline.

Brett Rypien came into the game and threw a touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy to cut their deficit to just six points. But Rypien failed to complete the comeback and the Chiefs won the game 34-28.

BRONCOS’ JERRY JEUDY SCREAMS AT OFFICIAL, BUMPS INTO HIM DURING OUTBURST

Wilson was 24-of-36 passing with 247 yards and three touchdowns and an interception. It was the first time all season the Broncos had scored more than 25 points in a game.

“He was fighting the whole game,” Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said. “I give him so much credit and you see it, day-in and day-out. No matter what the situation is, just watching him there in that third-down situation to be able to break the pocket, and he was using his legs a lot. He obviously ended up getting a concussion. I think our medical team did a great job of getting him in here. He’s in the concussion protocol now. So we’ll go through that step-by-step process and do it the right way. But he played really well.”

Wilson’s status is unclear but the Broncos’ chances of making the playoffs are over.
