Catholics' support swings for Trump over Biden by significant margin: poll

Catholics in the United States have swung dramatically against President Biden in recent years, now boasting a significant statistical break towards his GOP challenger.

Pew Research released on Apr. 30 a report exploring support for presidential candidates sorted by religious affiliation.

The poll found that 55% of Catholics support or lean towards supporting former President Donald Trump in a head-to-head against Biden.

Conversely, only 45% of Catholics support Biden in the same one-on-one pairing.

The 12% margin of support in favor of Trump marks a significant shift from 2020, when he held an extremely narrow lead — 50% to 49%.

Biden currently leads among Hispanic Catholics with a narrow 49%-47% split, but the close contest marks a major shift rightward for the demographic. In 2020, a similar poll from Pew Research found Hispanic Catholics preferred Biden to Trump with a staggering 67%-26% split.

Approximately 60% of protestants expressed support for Trump, according to the April survey. Conversely, about 38% said they leaned toward Biden.

Atheists, agnostics, and the religiously unaffiliated broke in favor of Biden by a large margin — approximately 69% said they would back the Democratic incumbent while only 28% voiced support for Trump.

Biden has leaned into his Catholic identity in his presidential campaigns, asserting himself as a devout believer despite blatant disregard for non-negotiable church teachings.

However, Catholic leaders have pushed back on this self-characterization and pointed out his support of policies utterly contrary to the faith, such as pro-choice deregulation and affirmation of gender ideology.

Cardinal Wilton Gregory of Washington D.C. previously called Biden a “Cafeteria Catholic” — saying he “picks and chooses dimensions of the faith to highlight while ignoring or even contradicting other parts.”

FBI interrogates Americans over social media posts 'every day, all day long,' agent says

FBI agents told an Oklahoma woman that the agency spends “every day, all day long” questioning people about their social media posts when they arrived at her house to ask about posts she made online.

Rolla Abdeljawad, of Stillwater, was told by FBI agents who showed up at her home on Wednesday that Facebook had handed over screenshots of her posts.

Abdeljawad told the agents she did not want to talk and asked them to show their badges on camera, but the agents refused, video posted to the social media platform X by her lawyer, Hassan Shibly, shows. The woman wrote on Facebook that she later confirmed with local police that the people who showed up at her home were actually FBI agents.

“Facebook gave us a couple of screenshots of your account,” one agent wearing a gray shirt was heard saying in the video.

Abdeljawad replied, “So we no longer live in a free country, and we can’t say what we want?”

“No, we totally do,” another agent wearing a red shirt said. “That’s why we’re not here to arrest you or anything. We do this every day, all day long. It’s just an effort to keep everybody safe and make sure nobody has any ill will.”

The woman then said, “All I’ve done is exercise my right as an American citizen on a public social media platform with my personal opinions.”

It is unclear which posts caught the attention of the FBI, but Abdeljawad has made a series of posts in the past week expressing frustration about the ongoing war in Gaza between Israeli forces and Hamas terrorists, including referring to Israel as “Israhell.”

“Israhelli terrorist filth,” she said in one post. “They think Ramadan is a weakness for Muslims not, realizing Ramadan is the strength. #FreePalestine May Allah destroy every single despicable zionist, their supporters and backers. Ameen.”

Abdeljawad’s Facebook timeline is also public, meaning the FBI agents could have accessed her posts themselves without requesting screenshots from Facebook.

One of her posts even warned the Muslim community and people who are pro-Palestinian to be wary of the U.S. government monitoring their activity.

“Don’t fall for their games. Our community is being watched & they are just waiting for any reason to round us up,” Abdeljawad wrote on March 24. “If you’re Muslim and/or pro-pal consider all your media accounts, Google searches, mail, messenger, local mosques & political events monitored. #NYC #usa #PoliceState #FreePalestine”

The official policy of Meta, Facebook’s parent company, is to give law enforcement Facebook data following a court order, subpoena, search warrant or emergency situation involving “imminent harm to a child or risk of death or serious physical injury to any person.”

In the first half of 2023, the social media giant received nearly 74,000 requests from law enforcement and handed over data 88% of the time, according to Meta’s website.

Abdeljawad said in a post on Thursday that her lawyer does not believe Facebook sent the FBI the screenshots of her posts.

“Rather, it seems like a fishing expedition,” she wrote. “I do not fear them. My only concern as, I told the cop is that, someone in my state will do something or that they would and then use my posts in a malicious attempt to ‘smear’ me. Just *remember, I am a Muslim, an obligated protector of creation. I enjoin what is good and forbid what is wrong.”

Shibly said in the caption on the social media video that Abdeljawad made the correct decision to refuse to speak without a lawyer, to not allow them in her house and to record the interaction. But, he says, she should not have gone outside her house to talk to the agents.

“You have the right never to speak to the FBI without a lawyer,” he said.

Former hotel VP accused of drunkenly slapping teenage Disney World restaurant hostess over dress code snub

A South Carolina man is set to make his first court appearance next month after he was accused of slapping a teenage hostess at a Walt Disney World Resort restaurant three times in the forehead, while under the influence, after she refused to seat him due to the restaurant’s dress code. 

John Munro, 64, of South Carolina, was arrested and charged with battery after an altercation involving him and a 19-year-old hostess at Cítricos inside Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort back in November.

Munro, no stranger to luxury hotels, was the Vice President of Hospitality, Sales, and Marketing at the prestigious Sea Pines Resort in Hilton Head, where he lives.

Karen Moraghan, the spokesperson for the South Carolina property, told Fox News Digital that Munro is no longer employed by The Sea Pines Resort.

On Thursday, Moraghan confirmed to The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette that Munro was placed on administrative leave “amid review of this personnel matter.” 

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by Fox 35 Orlando, on Nov. 19, 2023, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the resort in reference to a battery. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that just before 7:30 p.m., a restaurant hostess was checking a family in who had a reservation for three. However, the group arrived with four people; two women and two men. 

According to the arrest records, one of the men, identified as Munro, was not dressed in accordance with the restaurant’s dress code.

He was wearing swim shorts and a T-shirt and Cítricos’ website states that “guests are expected to dress accordingly in attire that respects the restaurant’s sophisticated and upscale aesthetic,” adding explicitly that swimwear isn’t allowed. 

Because Munro was wearing “swimming shorts and a T-shirt,” he was told by the hostess that he would not be allowed to dine with his family, the report stated. Munro seemed to understand but said he’d wait with his group until they were seated. The hostess agreed to his request, but the situation escalated when she took the group to be seated moments later. 

According to deputies, Munro followed the party of three to their table even though he was told he was not allowed to do so.

“Please don’t allow him to sit with us, he is really drunk, underdressed, it’s my birthday, and I’m embarrassed,” one of the woman told the hostess, according to the affidavit. 

When the hostess told Munro that he couldn’t sit with the group, he “began to repeatedly slap her forehead” three times while stating her name, which he read from the name tag on her shirt, deputies stated.

The hostess sustained no injuries and declined medical treatment, and wished to pursue charges, deputies said.

Deputies caught up with Munro, who they said was apparently intoxicated based on his “slurred speech, glossy red eyes, and constant repeating that he was going to sue Disney,” the arrest affidavit said. 

Munro was arrested and released on a $1,000 bond the next morning.

Surveillance video from the restaurant was not available, but prosecutors plan to use police body camera footage from the incident, according to Florida court records.

Munro entered a plea of not guilty and is expected to appear in court for a pre-trial conference hearing on Feb. 16.

Former University of Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines is holding strong to her criticism of the NCAA for its leaders’ reluctance to meet with female athletes who say they have been adversely affected by policies allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports, and for taking a more passive approach to the issue than she believes is essential.

“In 2010, they implemented a blanket policy for all sports. [Saying that after] 12 months of HRT hormone replacement therapy, you could compete in the category that aligns with your gender identity. Now, what the NCAA is doing is they’re in a phase-out approach. Essentially, they want nothing to do with the policy, which shows how cowardly, really they are,” Gaines told “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host Will Cain on Sunday.

“It shows they know this is wrong, and now they’re leaving it up to each specific sport to make rules for that sport.”

Gaines, along with Olympians, coaches and other NCAA athletes, met with organizational officials at the 2024 NCAA Convention in Phoenix to hand-deliver a demand letter urging the officials to meet with female athletes said to be affected by trans athletes participating in women’s sports.

The group also handed over a related petition said to have over 70,000 signatures. 

Gaines told Cain the group of protesters at the convention made the same demands last year.

“We went back this year to do the exact same thing, because, over the course of this past year, the NCAA hasn’t changed their policies and, as mentioned, women continue to be discriminated against on the basis of our sex,” she said.

“The people I delivered, the people on the governing board who had delivered the petition and the letter to me, even look me in the eyes, which is pretty disheartening as a female athlete…” 

Gaines previously noted her hope to meet with NCAA President Charlie Baker, who assumed the role in March 2023, to have discussions surrounding the inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s events.

“I know President Baker testified before the Senate a few weeks ago that changes are being made and that changes have been made, but that’s not what we’re seeing. We’re still seeing the NCAA continue to discriminate against women on the basis of our sex. It’s happening in just about every sport, every level, every division, every state — that’s why we’re here,” she said last week.

Baker testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in October and was pressed on the issue of transgender athletes being allowed in women’s locker rooms.

“I’m not going to defend what happened in 2022,” he said. “I wasn’t there. I was still governor of the commonwealth. What I will say is, we have very specific rules and standards around the safety and security of all our student athletes, and anyone who hosts one of our national championships has to accept that they know what they are and then abide by them accordingly.”

“I don’t believe that policy would be the policy we would use today,” he added.

“Fox & Friends Weekend” reached out to the NCAA for a statement, but did not receive a response in time for the segment.

Taysom Hill's touchdowns, Paulson Adebo's interceptions led Saints over Bears

Taysom Hill caught a touchdown pass and threw for another, Paulson Adebo intercepted two passes and also forced a fumble that he recovered, and the New Orleans Saints beat the Chicago Bears 24-17 on Sunday.

The Saints (5-4) forced five turnovers, intercepting rookie QB Tyson Bagent three times and recovering two fumbles. Those plays tipped the balance of a game in which the undrafted Bagent and the Bears (2-7) often had the Saints’ defense off balance, outgaining New Orleans 368-301 in total yards and possessing the ball for just more than half the game.

The final turnover — a fumble caused by Demario Davis’ sack and recovered by fellow linebacker Pete Werner — all but sealed it with 2:05 left. New Orleans needed only one first down — and got it — to run out the clock.

Bagent passed for two touchdowns to tight end Cole Kmet. He finished with 220 yards passing and 70 yards rushing to keep Chicago within one score the whole way despite the Bears being minus-5 in turnovers.

The Saints had a chance to take a 10-point lead on rookie kicker Blake Grupe’s 47-yard field goal attempt with 2:30 left, but the ball hit the left upright.

That gave the Bears the ball with a chance to drive for a late tying score — until Davis’ pivotal sack and strip.

The dynamic Hill’s receiving TD made him the first NFL player since Hall of Famer Frank Gifford, who retired after the 1964 season, to score 10 or more times each as a passer (11), runner (26) and receiver (10).

Derek Carr passed for 211 yards and two touchdowns for the Saints, the first scoring pass going to Chris Olave and the second to Hill.

Hill hit tight end Juwan Johnson in the back of the end zone for a 3-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter.

The Saints didn’t take their first lead until DJ Moore’s fumble — caused and recovered by Adebo — moments after what would have been a first-down catch to the Chicago 40 in the third quarter. That set up Grupe’s 55-yard field goal to put New Orleans up 17-14.

Chicago drove 13 plays to the Saints’ 13-yard line before settling for Cairo Santos’ field goal to tie it at 17.

Seeking their first victory in the Superdome since 1991, the Bears started fast. Bagent found Kmet for an 18-yarder to cap a nine-play, 75-yard opening drive. It was the fourth straight game in which New Orleans’ defense gave up a first-quarter TD, with two coming on their opponent’s opening drive.

But Adebo’s first interception near midfield set up a tying TD on Carr’s 8-yard pass to Olave.

Bagent’s second TD pass to Kmet, from 9 yards out, briefly put the Bears back in front before Carr drove New Orleans right back down the field for a 2-yard scoring pass to Hill for the utility player’s fourth TD in his past three games.

Santos, who kicked for Tulane when the Green Wave played home games in the Superdome, hit the upright from 40 yards out in the final minute of the half. His first miss this season kept the score tied at halftime.

Bears FB Khari Blasingame left the game to be checked for a concussion.
