Katie Porter blames sexism when pressed on 'The View' about staff mistreatment allegations

Rep. Katie Porter, D-Calif., blamed sexism when pressed by “The View” hosts on staff mistreatment allegations against her during an interview on Monday.

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin asked about the “toxic workplace” allegations.

An ex-staffer for the California Democrat alleged that the congresswoman made rude and racist comments to staff and said that she “ridiculed people for reporting sexual harassment.”

Sasha Georgiades, a Navy veteran and former Wounded Warrior fellow for Porter, also alleged that she heard the progressive congresswoman use racial slurs when talking to staff. Porter also faced scrutiny after leaked text messages showed her berating Georgiades for catching the coronavirus.

“I’m incredibly proud of my staff, the book is actually dedicated to my staff and my volunteers. And I say this in the book and in the dedication and it’s true, I may stand in front of them, but they are the ones that are leading the way for every viral moment you see, for every whiteboard that I get the word spelled correctly and I know what I’m talking about, there’s a ton of amazing people behind me and helping me and I’m so grateful for them,” Porter responded.

She added that “lots of the so-called bad bosses” are women and “disproportionately people of color.”

“I’m proud of my staff, I’m proud of the relationship we built, I’m proud to have them as my team moving forward,” she said.

Porter was also pressed on her ex-husband’s allegations of domestic abuse.

“In 2013 you requested and were granted an emergency protective order against your then-husband, who you say physically abused you. Your ex-husband has made his own allegations saying you abused him, but nevertheless, that you abused him physically and verbally during your marriage freight is any of that true? And what do you think this is really about?” co-host Sunny Hostin asked.

Porter, who is running for Dianne Feinstein’s California Senate seat, said that when people are survivors of domestic violence, “people try to silence them.”

According to divorce documents received by Fox News Digital, Porter and her ex-husband, Matt Hoffman, both filed domestic violence restraining orders against each other after an April 2013 altercation at the home they shared while legally separated.

“So what I would say is that my kids and I and I think my ex-husband would all like to move on from this. All of these discussions are very, very hard on my children. I talk about in the book, that having to rebut this politically is maybe the only political decision I’ve ever had to make. The only, not to vote, not a campaign contribution, I have lived my values,” she responded.

After Hostin said she was “surprised” it comes up politically, Porter criticized conservative media outlets for asking questions about the allegations.

“It only comes up in these contexts where people are trying to tear down a strong, outspoken woman,” she added.

Historian compares Biden to Lincoln, says 2022 elections are ‘easily’ the ‘most important’ since the Civil War

Presidential historian Jon Meacham compared President Biden to Abraham Lincoln Tuesday, arguing the upcoming midterm elections will be the most important choice that America has made since the lead up to the Civil War.

Appearing on “CNN Tonight” to promote his new book about Lincoln, he was asked by CNN co-host Alisyn Camerota to “tell us why you think that this is the most important election since 1850.”

Meacham responded that the upcoming elections are about a lot more than just particular policies.

“Well, I think it’s the most important election easily since that period because we are facing a stress test for the rule of law and democracies run not just on policies, not just about what a particular policy or tax rate is, it’s about an overall context of our mutual respect for each other as fellow citizens and a sanctity of law and custom that means that people who win elections legitimately get to serve in office,” Meacham said.

Meacham, who spoke at the 2020 Democratic National Convention, went on to mock former President George W. Bush while criticizing the Republican Party.

“When you deplete the trust in the system, which is what is unfolding today around the country, and I will confess, as George W. Bush might say, I misunderestimated the power of the ‘big lie’ here, but it’s burrowed in and democracies do not long endure if everything becomes about power at the expense of winning humbly and losing graciously,” Meacham said.

Co-host Laura Coates brought up the Confederacy and slavery before the Civil War and how Meacham compared them to Republicans who question the 2020 presidential election, noting how he wrote that both Lincoln and Biden had to deal with their own versions of the big lie, with Lincoln’s being that “slavery was a justifiable institution.”

PENNSYLVANIA SENATE DEBATE: OZ DECLARES VICTORY OVER FETTERMAN AS THE TWO CLASHED OVER ABORTION, FRACKING

She said there were moments where, if Lincoln had succumbed to pressure to placate the Confederacy, history would have turned out much differently and told Meacham, “You draw these analogies in a way, I think is not always so obvious but it’s fascinating to think of how and where we are today.”

Meacham said the main question we must answer “for the continuation of the constitutional experiment” is “do we put our own interests above everything else?”

“If we go entirely political, if it’s entirely – every moment is this battle where it is cataclysmic – then the system doesn’t endure,” he said, reiterating that Lincoln could have chosen a different path. But because he prioritized democracy over his political future, “Abraham Lincoln, flawed, fallen, and fallible, said no. And he said no, because he believed fundamentally that slavery had to die and the union had to endure.”

Republicans are gaining ground in the crucial midterm elections, with Republicans focusing on the economy and rising crime while Democrats have sought to make the campaign about abortion and a “threat to democracy.”

Biden touts 'rule of law' in polarizing speech, as border is overrun with illegal migrants

President Biden, in a divisive speech taking aim at “MAGA Republicans” Thursday night, touted the importance of the “rule of law” — even as hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants hit the border each month, many of whom are released into the country.

Biden used the address, outside Independence Hall in Philadelphia, to launch attacks against President Trump and his supporters while declaring that “equality and democracy are under assault.” He also said that American democracy only works if the “rule of law” is respected and slammed those who he claimed did not respect it.

“MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution,” Biden said, flanked by Marines and with a deep-red background behind him. “They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people.”

“This is a nation that believes in the rule of law,” he said at another point in the speech. “We do not repudiate it.”

BIDEN SAYS ‘MAGA REPUBLICANS’ THREATEN DEMOCRACY AS HE AND DEMS CRANK UP ANTI-TRUMP RHETORIC AHEAD OF MIDTERMS

“American democracy only works if we choose to respect the rule of law and the institutions that were set up in this chamber behind me, only if we respect our legitimate political differences,”

However, Biden spoke as an overwhelming and ongoing migrant crisis continues to ravage the border since he took office. Currently, around 200,000 illegal migrants hit the border each month. There have been more than two million migrant encounters this fiscal year alone, after a record-setting 1.7 million last fiscal year.

While some are expelled under the Title 42 public health order — which the Biden administration is seeking to end, but has so far been blocked by a federal court — most migrants are released into the U.S. ahead of a court hearing that can be more than a year away. Asylum hearings can take five to eight years to complete, and the vast majority are ultimately denied.

The Biden administration has stopped border wall construction, ended asylum agreements that would see illegal immigrants sent to closer Central American countries to claim asylum, and stopped the Migrant Protection Protocols — which kept migrants in Mexico for their asylum process.

MAYORKAS CLAIMS SOUTHERN BORDER ‘IS SECURE’ AS HISTORIC MIGRANT CRISIS RAGES

Meanwhile, the administration has been narrowing Immigration and Customs Enforcement priorities to just recent border crossers, aggravated felons and national security threats — meaning the vast majority of those in the country illegally are not targeted for arrest or deportation. As a result, arrests and deportations have plummeted since Biden took office. A court order recently ordered the administration to halt the narrowed priorities.

Critics have accused the administration of not enforcing immigration law, including laws that require that illegal immigrants be detained on entry to the U.S. The Biden administration has claimed its mass-release policies are in line with U.S. laws, including allowing those who turn up at the border to claim asylum — even those who have passed through multiple countries, or have even flown to the continent from Africa and the Middle East. It has also claimed the border is “secure.”

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), which calls for lower levels of immigration, tore into Biden for his touting of the rule of law on Thursday evening.

“If ever there was an administration that does not respect the rule of law, it is this one,” FAIR President Dan Stein said in a statement. “There is no more glaring example of lawlessness than the Biden administration’s gutting of immigration laws and border enforcement. This administration is not just refusing to enforce nearly every immigration and border enforcement law on the books, the president’s Secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, in a series of policy memos, has put it in writing. Moreover, the Biden administration is defying a federal court order to resume immigration enforcement.”

BORDER PATROL CHIEF SAYS BORDER CRISIS A RESULT OF BIDEN’S ‘NO CONSEQUENCES’ POLICY FOR ILLEGAL MIGRANTS

Stein accused the administration of “openly” refusing to remove illegal immigrants unless they are violent felons or terrorists.

“Time and again, when immigration laws are at odds with their own political objectives, our laws get chucked in the trash can,” he said. “That is the hallmark of an authoritarian dictatorship, not a constitutional republic.”

Meanwhile, former Trump-era acting Director of National Intelligence Director Richard Grenell contrasted Biden’s statements with support of jurisdictions which refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

“Joe Biden talks about the rule of law but supports Sanctuary Cities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, whose office this week revealed that the head of Border Patrol had testified that encounters increase when there are “no consequences” for illegal entry, also accused the Biden administration of flouting the law on the border.

That testimony came as part of a lawsuit that charges that the agencies under Biden’s direction are failing to follow established federal law, specifically the Immigration and Nationality Act, that requires officials to detain illegal aliens at the border until they are sent back to their country of citizenship.

“Not only are they completely ignoring public safety immigration laws to the detriment to the security of our nation, they are also building new programs that are unlawful to bring more people over here that are illegal,” she said on Fox Business. “This administration is absolutely no question sacrificing the safety of our nation for politics.”

Surprise! Someone Decided to Check Your Business Credit

No one wants a surprise when they apply for a loan, whether it’s a personal loan or a business loan. Rather, the hope is that the process is smooth and ends with approval of funds. However, if you aren’t aware, a surprise is exactly what you might get when you apply for a loan and the lender decides to check your business credit.

Expect Lenders to Check Your Business Credit

Sadly, they don’t have to tell you they are going to do it either.  So, the safest bet is to just assume they will. The Fair Credit Reporting Act protects you from this type of surprise when it comes to personal credit. Yet, it only applies to personal credit. In contrast, anyone can look at business credit reports.

In fact, it’s almost always part of the underwriting process for business loans. Frankly, it’s just one of the many ways lenders mitigate their risk and determine the creditworthiness of the business.

What Are Lenders Looking For When They Check Your Business Credit?

First, they need to see that your business is separate from you, the owner. Of course, they want to see that it can and will pay its obligations as well. Business credit reports are like a lender’s dirty little secret. They are made for bankers, not consumers.  Actually, many business owners don’t even know they exist. Yet, credit providers want to know it all, and they will look everywhere they can think of to find all the information they can.

Impact on Funding

Unfortunately, some lenders will deny funding if you do not have business credit. To them, that makes it look like business isn’t legitimate. In contrast, a business credit profile helps build trust.

Also, even if a lack of business credit does not affect approval, it may affect how much you get. Furthermore, it can affect terms and rates.

What Can You Do?

At a minimum, you need to be sure your business has a Fundable™ Foundation. This includes:

  • Separate contact information
  • EIN
  • Business bank account
  • And more!

In addition, you’ll need to build business credit. To start, work with vendors that will report positive payment history after you build your Fundable™Foundation.

Credit Suite Business Credit Builder

The thing is, vendors that report are hard to find. Thankfully, as part of the Business Credit Builder, we offer an up to date list of vendors we know report. It is unfortunate, but not all of them do.  Also, it can be hard to figure out who does. As a result, the list saves time.

Check Your Business Credit Report Yourself

If you want to avoid surprises, this is vital. I menan, you need to know what lenders will see on your reports. In fact, the Business Credit Builder program can help with this as well. As part of the program, you can get copies of the reports you need. Even better, an expert business credit specialist will go over them with you. They can help you understand where you are, guide you as to how to proceed.

Now, another option is stand alone monitoring. Of course, you can do this with each agency directly. But, with us you can monitor multiple business credit reports at a fraction of the cost.

Honestly, monitoring your business credit is the only way to know who’s reporting and when you can apply for more accounts.

Build a Business Credit Portfolio

A business credit portfolio is a cash flow pool of sorts. It includes all the different types of credit accounts you have. So, it is the total of all:

  • Vendor credit
  • Business credit cards
  • And business loans

In the end, a strong business credit portfolio allows you to even out cash flow, leverage business credit for growth, and keep going during tough times.

Don’t Neglect Personal Credit

Business credit doesn’t take personal credit out of the picture. Remember, lenders will look at everything. Personal credit can impact business credit.

Experian and FICO SBSS use personal credit in their business credit score calculation, and most traditional lenders will check both anyway. Still, if you have good business credit, they may not put as much weight on personal credit.

Be Prepared for Lenders to Check Your Business Credit

Lenders will likely check your business credit. Consequently, all you can do is be sure it is as strong as possible. Let us help. Find out more about building business credit now.
